Well, I’ve pissed off the Facebook design team, now it’s time to piss of David and Marco (although I really hope I don’t). I’m going to come out and say it: I really, really dislike the new Tumblr beta. It feels clunky and awkward, and I think it’s a huge step backwards in exchange for a few small usability improvements (wider dashboard, larger type, easy tumblog switching). Of course, I have no idea how far along it is, and I’m sure it’s a work in progress, but I got bored this weekend and decided that instead of posting some whiny diatribe about why I didn’t like it, I could mockup what I think I should look like. Interesting design.
I like it a lot better than the current beta, which lacks the polish I’ve come to expect from tumblr (most likely because it is a beta, and not the final version). Only time will tell.
There are quite a few improvements that I like, such as the ability to reblog chats as text, etc and the search functionality, but I’m not using the beta right now because I hate the way it looks (both on my phone and my computers).
