This American Life did a segment last year for their Showtime show on the Wiener Circle here in Chicago. I’m glad they don’t gloss over the obvious racist dynamic at work there. I think that’s why i’ve never gone there. That and the fact that i don’t like Chicago style hot dogs.

I have no words for how I feel about this video. Part of me is glad that it’s making the rounds on Tumblr so that all the people who are beneficiaries of white privilege can see that there is always an underlying racial aspect to every story.

I know that someone is going to say something along the lines of “but this is just one isolated situation” and that’s part of the problem. It’s only isolated because you’re on the other side of the equation.
