I have a few friends who paid for the GT download yesterday and are bitching about the sampling…My question to you is: Isn’t their right to give their opinion after having paid?Yes, but reblogging could potentially get someone paid if they had ads on their tumblr (and some do). Besides that, haven’t we all been paying to see DJs spin other people’s records for years? And what is Girl Talk if not essentially a DJ whos mixes have been recorded? Really people have been doing it for 20 years - I bought a Fresh Jive mixtape in high school with a ton of classic jazz songs “remixed” over beats. Isn’t it the same?
And to the people who paid for the download and are upset about all of the sampling - that’s 100% what Girl Talk is and has always been. Did they not know that Girl Talk is just remixed samples? I figured anyone paying to download it would have heard Girl Talk before and would have known exactly what he was about. It’s like downloading 2LiveCrew and being upset about all of the profanity.
