Coat Shopping 2K9
While I may complain about the early onslaught of winter, current temperatures are hovering around -7C and it’s only October, I secretly don’t mind because it means I can stockpile on more coats than the average person because realistically, I’ll be wearing those coats for the next 6 to 8 months.
My favourite wool bomber jacket has seen better days, and it’s time to either get a replacement (I like it enough to get the exact same coat three years later), or a completely different coat altogether.
1. I like the look of this Duffle Coat from Uniform Experiment’s Fall ‘09 line but I’m not sold on the shape, or the length for that matter — it appears to fall just above the knee. The coat also comes in bright orange, a colour I hardly ever do. It’s available online from Ark.
2. I’m obviously not really afraid of colour this winter, and J.Crew’s Stadium Cloth Winnie Jacket is proof positive of that. I’m not 100% sure about the yellow because a) it will probably get dirty (I envision myself spilling coffee on it or something else equally ungraceful) and b) Yellow? Really? I could see myself getting sick of this amount of whimsy early in the season. If it was purple, I’d be a little less hesitant.
3. Another bold number from J. Crew, this time it’s the Wool Ribbon Script Coat, I’m more drawn to it in the Ember colourway, but it wasn’t on a model and looked a little meh on the bust form so it’s pictured above in Antique Stone. I love the ribbon going down the front and its overall simplicity.
4. Gap’s Classic Peacoat in Cinnabar Red. I don’t know what it is about red coats this year, but I’m all over them like white on rice. This one is the cheapest of my selections, but I’ve actually tried it on in-store and I’m kind of in love.
5. Fenchurch’s Blenheim jacket. I already own this one in black, but I’m thinking of branching out and maybe picking up another colour this year. Last year it came in this fantastic red colour, but that doesn’t appear to be an option this year. It’s between a re-up in the Black, or going against the grain and getting it in a Spruce Green. It also comes in a checkered pattern, but I’m loath to do a pattern since I know I’ll tire of it far too quickly.
