The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released the first update to their Plant Hardiness Zone Map since 1990.
The just-released map uses temperatures from a more recent period, and over a longer time span, and reflects a warmer Minnesota.
Here’s the older plant hardness map that helps demonstrate the upward temperature shift. For example, the almost solid shift southern Minnesota had from zone 4a to 4b (with a couple extreme southern portions of the state now in zone 5).
