Peaches (via mikefats)
This is a shot from Peaches’ last show here, almost 3 years ago. I missed out on going to that show and I’ve always regretted it, so I made a point of getting to this one at any cost (I skipped out on my friend Shaun’s going away party, but we partied together at Iris’ last hurrah bbq before her housemates leave, and I got to Vancouver enough that it’s not really a big deal.
There are no words to describe how good last nights show was, epic just isn’t the mot juste in this case.
The set itself was incredibly long she was on-stage for 20+ songs and successfully intermingled the old songs with the new.
She crowdsurfed while she sang Operate, she did a DIY laser show during, I think she managed to do almost the entire new album, save for a track or two.
Drums of Death opened, and while it got off to a slow and rocky start, he had a strong finish. He ended up serenading kids in the pit for the past song.
My friends Emmy, Antoinette and I ran into our old boss outside, which wasn’t nearly as awkward as I pictured it to be. He ended up inviting us to this afterparty on the south side w/ Peaches, who had made it outside at this point and spent a good half hour talkng to and mugging for the camera with a small but passionate group of fans/stragglers.
Emmy and I peaced out on the party pretty early, my feet were killing me and we were both still drenched from the show — I’ve never felt the Starlite get that hot and humid before, it was ridic. Peaches’ hair went from a styled and flat-ironed nu-mohawk to a jheri curled pseudo-mullet in half a song from the humidity.
Towards the end I had to leave for about 5-10 mnitues to avoid passing out by guzzling water and hyperventilating in a back alley.
I know it’s a little early to be saying this, but I think that might have been the best show of 2009 for me.

I enjoy rich text evernote checklists, hefeweizen, the colour purple (the actual colour, and not the movie or book), debbie downerism, change purses, and stopping to get coffee even though I'm already mad late for work.
