Anyone remember Saved by the Bell College Years where Slater realizes he is Chicano? They organize a sit in at the chancellors office and Zack and Slater get in a fight. Well here’s a clip if you don’t remember. I totally remember this, however, now looking back on it after going to college and participating in sit-ins at the chancellors office and realizing I am a Chicana, this over simplified dramatization of what its like for students of color is still really interesting. I think that there is a lot that could be analyzed from this whole episode… This is just a clip….
oh! and this came out just in time for the 1993 UCLA Chicano Studies hunger strike! Students fasted for 14 days until the University caved and gave the students a Chicano Studies Department. Now we are in desperate need to fight for a American Indian Studies Dept and a African American Studies Dept.!
